You might find with your connection issue that if your phone is still paired to your coms and your trying to then connect to the device is causing issue. You might try unpairing the phone from the coms will make the device connection stable.

I laughed so much at your musings. Apart from the accent, You sound just like the many discussions I have had with myself. I too own a 2016 Triple Black and absolutely love this bike. I had thought of upgrading to the new GS, buy in my opinion BMW have totally lost the plot with the meaning of the new model GS ( now the R1300R is about to launch , you can't tell the difference in the two bikes). I also have spent a fair chunk of money morphing my GS into exactly what I wanted , and any money I spend on it now is still a better option for me than changing to another bike and starting to shape it into exactly what I have now. I am pretty sure this will be the last bike I own.......... until I am looking for a mobility scooter !

Hi dave, do u have to re connect the phone everytine you stop? If u stop for coffee, petrol or a smoke to i need to anything or will it just contnue from where ir was?

Bought 2017 gsa happy with it except for excess noise coming from the front. Longer rides take my big Harley ,better wind protection and more comfortable for big trips here in Canada. 😎🏍💨💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦🍻

I just purchased one. It’s a nice helmet but it fogs up on my 2018 R1200RT. I have to leave the visor open a bit. I’m not very impressed with the fogging. My previous RF1200 never did that.

Phone charging in your pocket is a negative, sat nav drains the phone.

This appears to be just a a phone monitor and not a dedicated GPS. So unless you can afford a good data plan to run it what’s the point.

Just done a 10 day tour in Europe and rode through the torrential rain and weather warnings in Germany to get to Austria, 9 hours of heavy rain and no issues at all, it is well protected by the screen and work perfectly. GS 1250.

Calimoto works great on mine but you have to start the navigation on your phone and not on the unit…

On the 1250 it does block the top of the screen. Mounting the BMW mount upside down has it sitting about 10mm higher. Might be enough for less taller riders. For me I had to use the included ball mount and powered from the din socket. Brilliant.

What is the nits on the screen ?

I purchased a Street Triple RS a month ago in cosmic yellow, and so far I have done around 100 miles.While using the quick shifter to change gears, I often experience a noticeable pull-back effect (like pushing), and the process is not always smooth. This sensation is more noticeable during downshifting, which is considerably less smooth compared to the upshifting process. Also, there are instances when using the quickshifter results in engaging the neutral gear instead of second gear. This unexpected shift has occurred on multiple occasions, leading to a somewhat unpredictable riding experience. I'm curious if any other Street Triple RS riders have encountered a similar issue with their quick shifter?

This looks like a great system. I use a navigator 6 on my XR and that works like a charm, no issues and super intuitive. I also have the RR and the turn by turn satnav via the bmw app is helpful but not great. I’d love to either install a bmw nav via a stem mount or possibly one of these in the 5” model but no idea whether I’d need the bmw cradle to supply power or some other solution. Anyhoo, the Carpuride looks great so will definitely be one of the options to consider..

Mate great vid I absolutely love mine had it on all through Spain the 702 BMW version is perfect. Apparently you can change the logo on start up but not sure yet how to do it. 👍🏻👍🏻

Enjoyed that Dave as ever - for me the HUGE size of the screen and the lack of whizwheel usability would make this one a thumbs down for me but really glad to see aftermarket solutions for Apple Carplay for bikes coming along....

That seems a really good bit of kit Dave, to save my phone camera I use my old iPhone XR on my phone mount with calimoto and keep my 12 pro in my pocket but I keep the thought in my head of the drug dealer with 2 phones vibes 😂. If you were out over the last few days you would have gotten plenty of rain to test the unit as I was in shercock and Lough Egish yesterday and every time I went to get out of the lorry it chucked it down 😂

I have seen it on a 1300GS and obviously asked about it and the owner was all positive for it and his dash wasn't covered. What he did and mentioned is that he got into the company and he got an update that the syst is starting up with the BMW intro and not Capuride. For your GPX, as you said the thing mirrors your phone. You need a navigation that loads the GPX and the app needs to be carplay ready and mirror on your screen. Try and play around with Osmand or as far as I know Calimoto loads GPX files as well. I might have just found a good birthday/ Christmas present idea for my husband 😁 Thanks Dave. Good review, my only thought is that as it’s mirrored to phone, without 4G access, wouldn’t you lose say google maps unless you’ve downloaded them? Interesting too about your SRL2, as I also use that in my Shoei. Think I’ll stick to my Zumo XT for now.

A good practical review. I've only seen one other review which tested a display over some time (Living off the Slab). I get a Chinese C7 display a few weeks ago. It cost me £160 including taxes and shipping from an Ali Express seller. There are a lot of them who sell the same device, but haven't got a clue about the software. I wasn't able to get it to connect to my Sena Spider ST1 from its second bluetooth connection. It didn't even pick it up. But my phone is happy to connect to multiple bluetooth devices, so like you I have an audio connection from my headset to the phone and a display connection from the C7 to my phone. It takes longer to connect to my phone at startup, but that may just be the difference between Apple Carplay and the Android Auto I use. I mounted it higher up from the bar behind the screen that lets me adjust the screen height on my Experia, so I can see both screens. My only problem has been with my phone, not the device. Xiaomi phones have aggressive battery saving technology that turns off all displays after around an hour. So on a long journey I had to pull in, take out my phone and reconnect it to the display. It is the same problem I had with the Beeline. For navigating over loaded GPX routes, there are different phone apps you can use. Some of them are Carplay or Android Auto compatible. The most recommended ones, Scenic and Calimoto, only works on Apple. I am trying My Route App Navigator which supports both Apple and Android.

Can it be rotated 90 degrees and mounted & run in portrait mode?

Welcome to the Carpuride family Dave. I have been rocking the 5 inch for a few months on my sister bike of yours. I find it so much better than any of the previous BMW Navigator systems that I sadly invested in. Ok no connection to the wizzy wheel. I appreciate the digital speed readout on Waze rather than the analog needle. For your info..my Cardo Packtalk connects perfectly each and every time. A great review Dave..cheers

That's a fine looking system Dave. Does it sync with the control wheel on the handlebars? I think you're going to enjoy keeping the 1200 and upgrading it.

Calimoto is not yet compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Ive asked myself. The reason I haven't yet bought one!!

On a totally different subject....you appear to be using the DJI mic adapter on your helmet camera. Have you stopped using the Mic2? Are you having problems with it?

Glad you like it. My only concern like all interactive displays car or bike fiddling with them whilst you are driving means you are not looking where you are going. With all the risks that involves it only takes a second to go all pear shaped. Safe riding 👍👍👍

That's a great system. I may invest in one if I can mount it on my motorcycle. I have a phone mount on a piece of copper pipe which is bolted in via the mirror bolts. Excellent review as always.

Sadly I’m having issues with the adapter and unit. I’ve been in contact with Carpuride and they sent me another unit. Tried it on two bikes with the adapter and it still doesn’t work. It doesn’t work with the usb either. But it did hard wired. However, I purchased it to use the BMW adapter. Carpuride’s support has been good and they are now send out a new adapter.

Seems like a great mirroring unit, can’t believe you went a month in Ireland without getting wet on the bike. 😮

Had the same dilemma. Keeping my 2016 GSA LC with now 50.000 km. Do maintenance myself. Using the bike just for holiday/ camping (2 up). Only a light/ canbus failure last year. Awesome bike. Not needing the “new” stuff.

Hi, I'm in the same dilemma at the moment. My 2018 gsa is currently in Preston BMW having the front suspension changed, not 18 months since the rear let me down!! I really fancy down sizing or maybe that's down 'expensing' to the new 450 Himalayan. It's a lot of bike to give up and I'm hoping I'll fall back in love with her when I finally get her back. Going into limp mode on a Scottish island for a suspension fault is something I don't want to experience again. Thankfully my very good friend rode home then drove back in his van to recover me. I would recommend a fuel map 'remap' I had mine done about 15000 miles ago and it transformed the smoothness of the engine and gets rid of the flat spot at 5000 rpm. Maybe if I keep her and the suspension goes again in the future, there might be the option to convert the suspension to a non dynamic set up. It's funny you mention cheating on her' I feel the same! I’ve gone through multiple cars but still have my ‘05 1200GS. It’s awesome, relatively simple and barely cracks 500lbs. The Boxer is so balanced at very low speeds and the torque will tug you up any technical hill at 2500rpm lol. Any my old GS buddy bought a Vstrom 650 a while back. It’s been cheap and economical but the quality is really lacking of course. Enjoy the ride!

Can relate to the struggle Currently pondering the same with my 2012 gs Rallye I’ve decided If you don’t regret buying it you’re going to regret selling it! 🤷‍♂️
